All of our projects begin with a face to face consultation with Melissa. We can conduct this virtually for our regional clients and it is a fantastic way to kick start your project and get inspired.
Hello, I’m Melissa Battersby, a qualified Interior Designer and Artist who specializes in residential projects as well as commercial over hauls. I seek to create warm and inviting spaces that reflect the unique personality of my clients.
I’ve dedicated my life to combining my creative passions with a solid foundation in education, skill and experience. I hold my Master’s Degree in Interior Design and I’ve been in the design industry for eight years.
I believe that my design style and approach was formed by the diverse fusion of colourful cultures I have been so fortunate to have experienced. I was born in Trinidad and consider myself the quintessential “Caribbean girl” and am fortunate to have traveled widely, including living in Europe.
Since launching Ramblings of a Design Junkie in 2016, I’ve worked with clients, developing their design style and ultimately creating personality filled interiors. I offer a hands on approach with every project, and pay particular interest to the finer details.

We follow a simple step by step process from Consultation to Design Development to Design Management. This ensures our clients feel confident, committed and inspired throughout the process.
We believe that in order for the design to be successful, a collaborative approach between Designer and Client is required.
All of our projects begin with a Design Consultation with Melissa Battersby, whether you are more of a do it yourself style client or our full service client.
Please view our work and have a read about us and prepare for out visit by gathering inspiration – be it online images or magazine tear sheets – of things you like, love and wish to see in your space. This forms an important starting point for the project and gets the ball rolling during our consultation
Start thinking about the style of the interior you would like to have – are there particular colours you love (or hate) – what type of mood would you like to create? We can explore this at our first meeting and use your initial inspiration as the driving force behind the design process.
We like for you to keep an open mind with new ideas that we will suggest – you hired us for a reason right? We also recommend you have an idea of your budget for the transformation of the space including paint, flooring, lighting, window treatments, furniture and furnishings.
We will help you break down these costings, but you need to be realistic about your investment.
Lastly, we want you to have fun with the process and use it as an opportunity to learn and be inspired. We take care of any issues that may arise during the process and strive to make the experience as easy as possible.
Every project at Ramblings of a Design Junkie begins with a Design Consultation, a face to face meeting with the Designer, Melissa Battersby.
Whether you are a do it yourself customer (preferring to tackle the project yourself) or a full service client with us, our Design Consultation can help solve a design dilemma, offer objective advice and provide design direction.
Often the design process can make you feel confused and overwhelmed so our consultations are ideal for providing a starting point for a particular area in the home, or kick starting the direction for a complete refresh.
Our Design Consultations are up to 60 minutes and advice only. You are welcome to take notes during the consultation.
If you prefer us to take care of the project, a fee proposal outlining inclusions and next steps will be sent to you.
What Can Be Achieved
Our consultations provide value to our clients helping to avoid frustration and overwhelm as well as providing suggestions and direction.
Each consultation can typically provide some of the following:
You’ve met with Melissa during the Design Consultation and would love Ramblings of a Design Junkie to personally design your space.
You agree and sign off the fee proposal and terms and conditions, which includes the deliverables and forms our working contract.
We then get to work personally designing and developing a scheme that reflects you and your lifestyle.
This includes confirming the floorplan and flow, creating a look book of ideas, sourcing specific finishes and furnishings and providing customized solutions such as joinery design etc.
During this phase we meet 2 to 3 times in person to deliver the presentation of ideas and to finalize the floor plans, materials selection and the budget.
You’ve been presented the ideas for your home, including the overall mood board and inspiration images, colour and material palette, bespoke solutions such as joinery design and suggested furniture and accessories, including prices and lead times.
Once you’ve agreed to the direction, we then enter into Design Management, where we oversee the installations and any works related to the design brief. This ensures the vision is executed to perfection and you have the support and guidance from an Interior Designer for the entirety of the project.
We handover the transformed space and arrange a photoshoot to capture the finished project.
